Job Title: Summer STEAM Instructor (18+)

About WMSI: White Mountain Science, Inc. (WMSI - pronounced ‘whimsy’), develops and delivers highly engaging STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs with the goal of teaching creative problem solving to students and teachers.
Job Description:
A Summer STEAM Instructor co-facilitates our educational STEAM camps. Age ranges are 5-7; 7-12; 12-14; and camps run 3-5 days per week at our makerspace in Littleton, NH and off-site across Northern NH. This leadership role involves assisting WMSI camp leads with camp day facilitation, including the design of new and exciting camp activities. Additionally, a Summer STEAM Instructor is involved in supporting campers with hands-on STEAM projects, as well as providing a welcoming and fun learning environment. This position also includes time to co-plan programming, set-up and clean-up of camp programs, program reflection, and the ability to work as a team member. There are growth opportunities in this position, including additional responsibilities over time. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Salary Range: $15-17/hr
Duties Will Include:
Co-facilitation of on-site and occasional off-site STEAM-based camps for elementary and middle school students with a WMSI year-round staff lead.
Facilitation of off-site one time/short-term programming
Primary supervision of campers, maintaining a safe and organized playful environment
Preparation of lesson materials and hands-on activities
Mentorship of campers, providing guidance and encouragement
Organization & maintenance of program-related resources & equipment
Collaboration and effective communication with the WMSI team, working closely with lead staff
Participate in any necessary instructor training(s)
Support in the design and planning of camp and after-camp activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Previous experience working with children - essential
Ability to support and empower campers in the creative problem-solving process - essential
Ability to set a positive environment within a room independently - essential
Prior experience and/or interest in science, technology, engineering, art and math - a plus
Strong communication and organization skills
Must be motivated and self-directed
A team player who is willing to learn from mistakes and adapt
Motivated to improve as an instructor
A valid driver’s license - essential
Schedule:
Paid Training June 16th-18th, 20th
Camps start in mid-June 2024 and run through mid-late August 2024.
The expected schedule for this position will average 35-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. However, actual hours may fluctuate based on programming schedule, with some weeks requiring fewer hours (20-25) and occasional off-site weeks between 40-45 hours. Schedule will be prearranged and clearly communicated by your supervisor in advance.

Physical Exertion Environmental Conditions:
Required to sit for extended periods of time, stand frequently, use fine motor skills to operate equipment, and lift and/or move 40 pounds or less.
